Steve Jobs Steps Down
The day has final come as one of the most innovative tech gods is no longer. Steve Jobs announced today that he stepping down as the CEO of Apple, now to be run by Tim Cook, Apple’s previous COO and Jobs right hand man. Jobs felt that he “could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO.” Several posts ago I mentioned the only thing that might slow down Apple’s growth would be if Steve Jobs resigned. Apple is still filled with bright minds and Jobs isn’t entirely leaving as he would like to stay on as Apple’s board chairman director. It will be a very interesting ending to year with the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 to hit without Jobs leading the way.

iPhone 5 to be Sold by Sprint
The Wall Street Journal is reporting the Sprint network will be selling the iPhone 5 this October. If this is true only T-Mobile will be the lone wolf out of the massive iPhone market. This would also be a major plus for the Sprint network as it is sure to add subscribers to it’s network. But I think the most important common factor here is the release of the iPhone 5 in October.

Amazon Top Retail Site
Amazon was the largest retail site in terms of visitors for June, according to a new report released by Comscore. Amazon had 282 million visitors with Ebay in second place, having 223 million visitors. The other big A, Apple was the third largest with 134 million visits round the top three most visited USA retail sites. The numbers are world wide and are unique visits. A unique visit is a computer or device that went to the site and was only counted once, even if that same device visited the site at a later time. What do these numbers mean? The world economy is definitely not in the best shape right now and traditionally the cheapest route to buy anything in tech was to buy used or refurbished and on-line. The largest used site is definitely Ebay. Having Amazon on top with the amount of visitors shows consumers are looking for the best deal, regardless if it is used or not. Amazon tends to be a more trusted vendor since you are dealing with a company and not a person selling items from their house. I imagine these numbers will definitely sky rocket once Holiday season shopping hits.

Google Buys Motorola Mobility
The big G has just dropped a jaw breaker as they announced this morning the purchase of Motorola’s mobile department for $12 billion dollars. The purchase “will increase competition by strengthening Google’s patent portfolio,” according to Google’s CEO Larry Page. A move like this is a huge plus for Google as it gives them more dominance in securing their position in the mobile market.

Apple trying to become the first trillion dollar company
The big A is on the verge on pass oil juggernaut, Exxon, as the most valuable publicly traded company measured by market capitalization. As of publish date of this blog, Apple sits at $337.17 million. Apple still has a long way to get to a trillion dollars, but they are definitely not slowing, owning the largest digital music store (iTunes), owning the portable entertainment market (iPod and iPad), and having the largest app store. There is no doubt Steve Jobs is a huge influence in Apple’s success. There will be time in which he will no longer be a part of the company, unless the iClone is developed, and it will be interesting to see how much more Apple will dominate and innovate not only the tech world, but the Whole World!
